Extra CurricularWe aim to provide a broad range of extra curricula activities to develop the interests and abilities of all students.
Technology Technology is an integral part of all learning and is integrated into lessons across a range of Key Learning Areas. All classrooms are networked and students have access to several computers in their rooms. Additionally, there is a computer lab in the library that allows classes to be taught skills all at the one time. Students use a range of technology including a scanner, digital camera and coloured laser printer. Interactive whiteboards will be introduced to the school in the near future.
Japanese Students at Taren Point Public School participate in Japanese classes. They learn both Japanese language and culture.
PSSA Sport Years 3-6 participate in local competitive sport by taking part in Cronulla Zone PSSA carnivals for athletics, swimming and cross country. Taren Point Public School won the swimming and athletics carnivals in 2003, 2004, 2005 and swimming in 2007. We also enter PSSA competitions for netball and soccer. In 2006 and this year we were Premiers in both these sports. A comprehensive gymnastics program is offered and run by trained gymnastics teachers. Sports clinics are frequently held to develop skills in various sports including basketball, hockey, AFL and golf.
Challenge Club Challenge Club is an optional program which operates on two mornings per week. One session is for students in Years 1-3 and the other is for students in Years 4-6. Challenge Club is a fun and engaging program which aims to develop students higher order thinking skills and creativity.
Music The school offers an extensive music program where students learn instruments as part of the school band, guitar group, keyboards and recorder and percussion. Singing solo, as a small group and choir are also offered.
Dance All students participate in the school dance program. The school employs a professional dance teacher. Classes develop routines that are performed at various events throughout the year. Then students have successfully competed in Waikikirri Dance and Drama Eisteddfod and were selected to dance at the Sydney Region Festival of Dance and The NSW Schools Spectacular, the largest variety show os its kind in the world!
Scripture Scripture is offered for Protestant,Catholic and Greek Orthodox and is provided by visiting clergy and lay teachers each Tuesday morning.
